Fans of the football teams Austria Vienna and Rapid Vienna started a fight in the underground station Pilgramgasse and in a carriage of a U4 train yesterday (Sun). 30 policemen had to step in.
Around 100 fans of Austria Vienna were taking the train in the direction of Hütteldorf just before 14.00. They were traveling to the popular football derby of Austria Vienna and Rapid Vienna, which was set up in the stadium.
Several fans of Rapid Vienna were waiting on the platform of the underground station Pilgramgasse (fifth district of Vienna). The two fan groups started a fight and apparently damaged window screens of the train.
As the match is regarded as a high security game, several policemen were traveling with the fans in the underground train. They alarmed their colleagues and stopped the U4 train.
Several people were injured but it is not clear whether innocent passengers were amongst them. Wiener Linien had to remove the damaged train. Three men, who were accused of starting the fights, were arrested.
Several Austria Vienna fans met at Urania (first district) and marched towards the underground station at Schwedenplatz. Two fans were arrested due to resistance against the police.
The derbies of the teams often lead to violence between their supporters. In the last derby before the winter break fights between the fan teams broke out and three people were injured.
