The world's greatest ever female chess player Judit Polgar has triumphed over 25 others at a simultaneous chess tournament in Vienna.
The tournament took place last Thursday at the Wien Museum on Karlsplatz. Polgar won 23 games, drew one and lost one.
Twenty-three of her 25 contenders were male and the draw that she had was against a male hobby player with an ELO rating of 1,615 – lower than Polgar's rating of 2,705.
Polgar is deemed to be the best female chess player in the world and she has been at the top of the women's chess leaderboard for the past 20 years. In 1992 she also became the world's youngest professional chess player at the age of 15 years and 4 months.
In April 2011 Polgar became the first woman to win a medal at an official open chess championship. She was third in the European chess championship and she reached the same number of points as the winner Wladimir Potkin of Russia.
The Chess Grand Master will head a large chess event in her home country this coming weekend. Around 2,500 people are expected to participate at the chess festival in Hungary's capital Budapest. The festival is being organised by Polgar and her two sisters – her one sister, Zsofia, had been in Vienna to support her at the grand tournament.
At the Wien Museum located at Karlsplatz in Vienna, Polgar visited the special exhibition "Spiele der Stadt zu Gast" which is open until April 2013.
As part of the exhibition programme there is a lecture from early leader of the Vienna Security Office Max Edelbacher about "Crime and Games", a reading from Thomas Glavinic of an excerpt from his debut novel "Carl Haffners Liebe zum Unentschieden" ("Carl Haffner's love to draw") and a presentation of new digital games made in Vienna.
