Special offer for couples in Schnbrunn zoo on Valentines Day

Schönbrunn offers a special price for couples who visit the zoo on Valentine’s Day (Thurs). The keyword "Valentine’s Day" will enable them to receive two tickets for the price of one (15 Euros).

Dagmar Schratter, the director of the zoo, said that one can observe gentle behaviour between many animals: "The Patagonian Conures often sit very close to each other and clean their partners’ feathers." Ms Schratter said that there were three births among those parrots last year.

There is also the hope that there will be offspring among the Colobus polykomos, a primate species.

"When the historical ape house was reopened last year we obtained the male Achim and the females Marie and Kwaku from the zoo in Duisburg. Achim likes grooming, especially with Marie."

As their terrain in West Africa is being destroyed, the Colobus polykomos are an endangered species. They are thus bread in zoos according to a European Conservation Breeding Programme.

Radio Wien will report about "animals in love" every morning until 15 February.
