The office in charge of Europe’s biggest charity event "The Life Ball" have warned about telephone fraudsters calling up pretending to be founder Gery Keszler and asking for a donation.
The man, claiming to be Keszler, said he wanted money and asked if he could send a representative to sign a deal.
But a Life Ball official said: "We have already brought this issue to the attention of the Public Prosecutor’s Office".
They have also published a warning about the fraudsters on the event’s homepage and Facebook page.
"Until this matter has been resolved we cannot rule out the possibility that people will receive further calls of this nature. We would like to urge the public that in the event such a phone call is received or should anybody have suspicions, they should contact us.
"Should you be uncertain whether a call has actually come from Gery Keszler or an official member of the Life Ball organisation, you can clear this up quickly by contacting the Life Ball Office."
The Life Ball has been an annual event on the European social calendar since 1992 and is staged at Vienna’s Rathaus by the organisation AIDS LIFE, which supports people who are HIV-positive or have AIDS.
