Austria meets France at 3,000 metres

The Central Spa Hotel in Sölden, Austria will celebrate the world of wine against its dramatic backdrop of snowy mountains and glaciers, for the 11th year in a row in April. The event entitled "Wein am Berg" this year sees "Austria meet France" with visitors enjoying three days of wine and food activities around the five star hotel and resort.

For 10 years the luxury ski and wellness hotel has teamed up with another country to put on three days of top quality gourmet celebration. This year is no exception with renowned wine growers and chefs from both Austrian and France coming together at the top of the mountain.

Guests are taken from alpine hut to hut, ably lead by celebrity guides such as World Champion skiers Frank Wörndl, Guenther Mader and Marc Girardelli. In each of the huts guests and wine makers will encounter each other in a relaxed and cosy atmosphere all the while indulging in top class fare. This year sees top chef Joachim Gradwohl from Meinl’s restaurant in Vienna, cooking up a storm in the snow.

Gradwohl will be accompanied by award winning chef Gottfried Prantl from the hotel on Thursday, 26 April for a gourmet evening, followed by a wine tasting at 3,000 metres above sea level. Friday evening begins with a wine presentation and is followed by a grand culinary celebration. Another wine tasting will take place at midday on Saturday on the glacier with a traditional "Burgenländischer Sautanz", a traditional feast containing various cuts and delacies from the pig.

The hotel are now offering special packages for the Wein am Berg event in April. Three nights with gourmet half board, participation in "Wein am Berg", a two day ski pass, use of the fitness centre and access to the Venezia water world are all included in the package.
