Akademietheater and English Theatre entertain the crowds

A new play by Roland Schimmelpfennig is now on at the Akademietheater while one of the best places for English-language stage productions in Central Europe offers "Time Stands Still".

Schimmelpfennig’s "Das fliegende Kind" recently premiered at the Akademietheater, which is associated with the Burgtheater, to wide acclaim. German newspaper Die Welt praised Schimmelpfennig for not refusing to dare risks with his new drama play while the Tiroler Tageszeitung underlined that he offered the six performing actors a lot of artistic freedom to prove their strengths and capabilities. Christiane von Poelnitz, Johann Adam Oest and Regina Fritsch star in "Das fliegende Kind".

Fritsch is also part of the group of actors who ensure that a stage production based on Woody Allen’s "A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy" is a full success at the Burgtheater. Die Presse welcomed that the actors "deliver on the spot" when it came to epitomising the manifold inner struggles and challenges people had to deal with in their lives. Darlings of the Viennese audience such as Michael Maertens and Roland Koch can be seen on stage in "Eine Mittsommernachts-Sex-Komödie" directed by Burgtheater chief Matthias Hartmann while Liliane Amuat proves being a promising talent – not only because of performing excellently despite a recently fractured tow.

The Akademietheater and the Burgtheater are currently also drawing the crowds with several other plays including "Der goldene Drache", "Romeo und Julia" (Romeo and Juliet) directed by David Bösch and "Endstation Sehnsucht" (A Streetcar Named Desire). Visit www.burgtheater.at or call +43 1 514 444 145 for ticket information.

"Time Stands Still", a new drama by Donald Margulies, is currently on at Vienna’s English Theatre. The vibrant theatre, which is located in Josefstadt district, was established in 1963. For "Time Stands Still", Vienna’s English Theatre cooperates with Perry Street Theatricals, an American stage production company with experience in New York City, USA, and London in the United Kingdom.

Briton Philip Dart, who has worked at Vienna’s English Theatre many times over the years, told the Austrian Times in 2009 when he directed Joseph Kesselring’s "Arsenic and Old Lace": "It is always lovely to come here. (...) The English Theatre has got a good following and many visitors. They are very responsive and you notice they all speak brilliant English since they get the humour."

"Engaging Shaw", a witty romantic comedy by John Morogiello, and Marc Camoletti’s farce "Boeing Boeing" will be on at the theatre later this season. To book tickets and to find out more about the English Theatre’s gift voucher and subscription opportunities, call +43 1 402 12 60-0 or visit www.englishtheatre.at.
