BonbonBall crowns 2012's sweetest belle

The very sweetest belle of the ball was once again crowned at the BonbonBall in Vienna at the weekend. Medical student Anna Sophie Stöbern from Lower Austria was crowned Miss Bonbon at midnight on Saturday in front of some 4,000 guests.

The ball which celebrated its 63rd year of Fasching celebrations took place in the Vienna concert house. With sweetie offerings from Rondino and Manner and some 3,750 edible tombola prizes no one was without energy to dance the night away on one of the many dance floors at the ball.

Whether there for the more traditional ballroom dancing, accompanied by the Vienna ballroom orchestra or the exotic Cuban dance floor and cocktail bar, the event catered to every party goer's needs, with the music from the Radio Krone Hit Disco carrying on into the earlier hours of the morning.

And for all those who had worked up a thirst after all the exertion, the colourful Italian tipple, Aperol Spritz, was the official BonbonBall drink.

The highlight of the annual event however is of course the crowning of Miss Bonbon. Since 1952 the sweetest young lady has been given the coveted title. More than 150 girls appear before the jury and are whittled down to just 10 who appear in the main ballroom on the night.

The winner this year was 20-year-old Anna Sophie who got on the Manner scales to do her bit for charity. The young woman weighed 56 kilos, equivalent to 760 packets of the chocolate wafers which were then doubled by Manner and donated to the charity of her choice. The 20-year-old Miss Bonbon elected to give her wafers to the St. Anna children's hospital in Vienna.
