Last preparations for the Vienna referendum

In the next few days, 1,5 million people will receive ballot papers for the upcoming referendum in Vienna. It will take place from 7-9 March but it is possible to vote earlier by post.

The ballot paper includes a survey, a sheet with information and a stamped envelope. It is necessary to send those items them back to the voting authorities by 18 March (14.00).

The four questions regard parking stickers, the Olympics, privatisation and alternative energy projects. They have to be answered until 9 March (18.00) latest, which will be the official end of the voting.

Those who prefer to vote personally will be able to do that in one of the 52 offices in schools, retirement homes or in public places. It is necessary to bring an ID.

If the documents are not delivered by post, it is possible to ask for a duplicate copy at the magistrate.

The government coalition of Social Democrats and the Green Party in Vienna called for a referendum. Campaigns have started some time ago.

People who were born before 9 March 1997 (and are thus 16-years old) have a right to vote in the referendum.
