Less vandalism in the Wiener Linien

The Viennese transportation company Wiener Linien announced yesterday (Sun), that vandalism in their vehicles has decreased by 37 percent in comparison to 2011. This is largely thanks to regular presentations in Viennese schools.

"It is very important for us to conduct educational campaigns in connection with students’ safety. It is even more rewarding if we achieve that parents and children change their views", said Günter Steinbauer, managing director of Wiener Linien.

Around 2,425 students visited presentation conducted by Wiener Linien and the police of Vienna last year. These presentations were aimed at making children’s way to school safer and supporting right behaviour in public transport.

This involved discussing various safety issues such as the misuse of the emergency break and the contamination of vehicles.

Through these presentations students and their parents learned that a misuse of the emergency break would not only cause people to fall over but also steal their precious time. The unjustified usage of the emergency break costs 93 Euros.

The presentations had the biggest impact when it comes to vandalism in the vehicles. In comparison to 2011, the number of registered vandalism has decreased by 37 percent. Wiener Linien saved around 60,000 Euros for not having to remove graffiti.

The successful initiative will be continued this year. Wiener Linien is also planning to get other institutions involved.
