Austrian actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected in Vienna today where he is getting support for his new network "R20 Regions of Climate Action".
The network is organising an event tomorrow and Friday to do with climate control and energy.
The R20 - Regions of Climate Action (R20) is a nonprofit environmental organization founded in November 2010, by former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, with the support of the United Nations.
The R20 is a coalition of sub-national governments, private companies, international organizations, NGOs and academic and financial institutions.
Its mission is to help sub-national governments to implement low-carbon and climate-resilient projects, as well as to share best practices in renewable energy and energy efficiency, in order to build a "green economy".
The focus of the NGO is to operate at the sub-national level. In effect, the R20 believes that sub-national governments constitute a powerful force for change and are the best positioned to take action and implement green projects.
Following a bottom-up approach, successful sub-national projects will be scaled-up to national and international levels, in order to have a global impact.
Vienna's mayor Michael Häupl said the city's environment policies were active and successful for example in the area of waste recycling where they were now actually saving more from waste gases than they were producing.
Schwarzenegger's son Patrick is meanwhile back in the States and Arnie will be staying at the Ritz Carlon in Vienna.
His first meeting is a meeting with the Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann as well as with Romania's Victor Ponta.
