Massive price increase for taxi journeys in Vienna
Taxi customers are in for a shock from this weekend after an increase of up to 65% on prices for using a cab in Vienna.
The price increases are across the board.
It means that as soon as a passenger gets into a taxi – the basic minimum fee which is charged has increased from 2.50 euros to 3.80 euros for passengers travelling between six a.m and 11 p.m. The increase for passengers travelling between 11 p.m. and six a.m and on Sundays or bank holidays is from 2.60 euros to 4.30 euros.
The new price increases also mean that the taxi meter will clock up increments faster during periods when the taxi is caught in stationary traffic and also will need less distance before clicking to the next price.
The taxi drivers association said that the dramatic increase is due to the fuel price rise. They also complained that it was necessary because there were too many taxis on the roads of the city which increased pressure on taxi operators.

Army officer sentenced over getting recruits to lay flooring at his house
The state court of Vienna sentenced a second lieutenant of the Austrian Army to nine months in jail due to misuse of authority. He had three recruits lay the flooring in his own house.
