Police arrest suspected khifeman that attacked actor

Austrian police have arrested an unemployed man in connection with the knife attack on 36-year-old Austrian actor Christoph Moosbrugger after they released a CCTV image.

The photo shows a man of Asian region wearing sunglasses as he fled the scene of the attack.

Moosbrugger was stabbed after getting off at a bus station in the Margareten district of Vienna in an apparently motiveless incident.

After the image was released it was identified by a police officer who had arrested the suspect over a separate incident. He had the weapon used in the incident on him when police tracked him down.

Police spokesman Roman Hahslinger said that although the image did not show very much it had been enough for the police officer to recall that he had questioned him about a separate incident.

The man who is from the Dominican Republic said he felt that the actor had been going to do something to him, although images from the videocamera show that the victim had been on the other side of the street from his attacker and had crossed over to reach him.

The accused is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation and has been living in Austria since 1998.

Moosbrugger who is still recovering from his injuries said in an interview with Radio Vienna that he had only just got off the bus and was going to the tobacconists when he felt an enormous blow in his back.

He said: "I have never felt anything like it and I turned round and was staring into the man's face nose to nose – he just looked at me and then slowly stepped backwards – then he ran off."

He described the attacker as looking like he might be quite cultivated and added: "He was wearing an expensive pair of sunglasses which I thought was strange because it was really cloudy."
