Austrias first IVF baby is thirty
Austria’s first baby born as a result of IVF treatment is thirty years old.
Austria was the sixth country in the world where an IVF baby was born following in the footsteps of England, Australia, USA, France and Germany.
The first IVF baby was born in Vienna’s AKH hospital thirty years ago marking the start of a medical treatment which would result thirty years later in between one and two per cent of all babies being born with the help of IVF.
Zlatan Jovanovic was the first baby to be born as a result of successful IVF in Austria in 1982.
Leading Austrian gynaecologists Wilfried Feichtinger, Peter Kemeter und Stephan Szalay worked on the pioneering new treatment back then at the AKH women’s clinic.
Szalay said: "It was a fantastic feeling to be involved in the beginnings of IVF treatment in Austria, for me it was such a miracle to be able to work on the source of human life."
The world’s first IVF baby Louise Joy Brown was born on 25th july 1978 in Manchester, England.
