The window-bear

A prank by students who put a giant teddy bear in the window above a busy street in Vienna has become an internet hit after the toy got his own Facebook page.

The students grabbed the attention of motorists and pedestrians by offering a constantly changing look to the bear who is seen in a toilet window of the shared flat in Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus since the beginning of July.

The owner of the bear and founder of the Facebook page Martin Schneidewind has composed a song called "Der einsame Fensterbär" (The lonely window-bear).

Martin Schneidewind and his three flatmates said they did not expect such a big interest in the window-bear which is starting to spread over the world.

On Friday last week the bear already had over 1,200 followers on Facebook, and even the media outside of Austria became interested in the window-bear.

The four flatmates said the bear project had not started with any idea in mind, and that they just enjoyed watching the people on the street looking up to the bear and taking pictures of him.
