Growing number of overnight stays in Vienna

Tourism officials in the capital are celebrating a rise in tourist numbers despite the euro crisis.

In May 2012 around 1.1 Million tourists were registered in Vienna, representing a 7.1 percent rise on the previous year over the same time period.

In general, the year 2012 was characterized by a considerable increase in overnight stays of 8.3 percent in comparison with last year’s statistics.

Especially the number of overnight stays of tourists from Switzerland, France, Japan, and the United States showed a double – digit growth. And Brazil and China also grew significantly.

Germans, Spanish, and Russians saw a single – digit increase. However, the number of tourists from Italy decreased, while the number of British and Austrian tourists stayed around the same.

The Vienna Board predicts a further increase in numbers of tourists in Vienna.
