Vienna has been named as the fifth best student city in the world. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) who are known for their university rankings and guides published their latest results yesterday.
According to the data Austria’s capital city is the ideal place for students to live. Throughout Europe it came in third place only below Paris and London. The reason for the high ranking however is not the universities but rather the quality of life.
The rankings have been decided by QS on the grounds of "student mix", "quality of living", "employer activity" and "affordability". Vienna’s quality of living is rated 99.5, more than 8 points higher than top ranking Paris and 11.5 points more than London. Cities with more than 250,000 people and at least two ranked universities were considered and analysed by QS.
"Those who want a world class university would rather go to Boston or London", said the experts from QS. But "for students who want a high quality of life combined with culture and affordability, Wien (Vienna) can hardly be beaten," said the QS team.
Despite the University of Vienna ranking only 155th in the world, the city still managed to come out top.
