There are currently 65 volunteers working at Schönbrunn Zoo. They are in charge of lending carts, supervising the petting zoo and making games for the animals.
Those who want to take part can attend the "Team Zoo Aktiv" introductory evening on 26 February.
"Volunteers have become an important part of the zoo. It would not be possible to survive without them in many areas", said director of the zoo Dagmar Schratter.
There are four areas in which the volunteers can offer their help: for those with green fingers, they can help gardeners and handymen in the zoo; for those who like working with children or who want to support the protection of animals, they can join the event organization team. There is also the general visitor service and finally there are also many administrative functions that volunteers can take part in.
"Unfortunately, direct contact with the animals is only allowed for trained employees and volunteers cannot help out there", said Ms Schratter.
To be a volunteer you must be at least 18 years old and commit to 12 hours a month for half a year. In order for volunteers to gain the appropriate knowledge for their work, they must take part in training courses and regular team meetings.
Introductory evening "Team Zoo Aktiv – Volunteering in Schönbrunn Zoo" takes place on Tuesday, 26 February 2013, 17.00.
It is compulsory to register for this introductory evening and you must fill in the form on the homepage below:
