Vienna to St Pölten in half the time by train
A new high speed train link between Vienna and the lower Austrian capital St Pölten has started operating thanks to the opening of the route through Tullnerfeld.
The new service has cut the journey time from 40 minutes down to 25 minutes.
At the same time there was also been improvements to the Mariazellerbahn.
The Tullnerfeld route has been under construction for the last decade and includes 60 km of railway including eight tunnels and a total cost of 2.8 billion euros - which was 100 Millionen euros under budget.
The new line means that one third more trains will now be operated by Westbahn and taking less time.

The Leopold Museum in Vienna opened the the exhibition "Drawing against oblivion" on 17 May. Manfred Bockelmann drew more than 60 portraits of children and teenagers, who were victims of the Nazi terror.
