Season-ticket sales boosted by price drop

The Vienna public transport network says that since 1 May when the new 365 Euro annual tickets have gone on sale they have managed to sell 16,000 of them.

Since the beginning of the year they say they have sold 60,000 more annual season tickets – and that a total of 437,000 currently own an annual season ticket.

The city's Social Democrat deputy mayor Renate Brauner said: "60,000 new customers is a clear signal that we were going the right way in servicing the needs of the people of Vienna."

The new cheaper tickets are not just for those who purchase them now.

The Vienna public transport network said that they had refunded a total of 3 million Euros to customers who had purchased the more expensive annual ticket. These customers have been refunded the price difference.
