Queens 40,000 GBP gift horse

The Queen is to be given a rare 40,000 GBP Lipizzaner horse when she visits Slovenia later this month.

The white stallion will come from the same stud farm that breeds the horses for the exclusive Spanish Riding School in Vienna, say local media.

Tour organisers have also planned a tour of the farm in Lipica, once part of the old Austro-Hungarian empire, during the two day visit.

The horse-mad Queen is understood to be delighted at the gift.

Lipizzaners are prized for their acrobatic dressage abilities and are among the rarest and most valuable horses in the world.

The Queen and Prince Philip will also be taken on a walk through the High Tatras mountains when they visit nearby Slovakia days later.

Local authorities say she will unveil a plaque on a pathway through the range.
